British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron said on Sunday that they saw an opportunity in Ukraine, which is currently fighting Russia's invading forces, to turn the war. However, London also warned before immediate attempts to resolve the military conflict between Moscow and Kiev.

A spokesman for Downing Street said Britain's and French leaders, who met at Elmau Castle in the Bavarian Alps for the G7 summit on Sunday, "agreed that this was a turning point in the conflict and that there was an opportunity to turn the war." But Johnson warned Macron that "any attempt to resolve the conflict will now only cause permanent instability."

According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin could gain "the right to eternal manipulation of sovereign states and international markets." At a meeting with Johnson, Macron praised London's continued military support for Ukraine, and the two leaders agreed to step up this effort and continue close cooperation in the fields of defense and security.

Macron's presidential office also said Johnson was enthusiastic about the idea of a wider European political community proposed by Paris. This structure would also include non-EU countries such as Britain.

Unlike the head of the Élysée Palace, who did not interrupt the dialogue with the Russian president, Johnson refused further talks with Putin. Ever since the Kremlin decided to launch an attack on Ukraine, Johnson has called Putin a dictator.

Johnson also told reporters at the G7 summit that world leaders must reckon with the fact, that supporting Ukraine will mean rising energy and food prices, but if Russia is allowed to win the war, the price to be paid would be much higher.
