Putin Wants To Destroy European Union, Says Angela Merkel. He Sees It As A Sister Project Of NATO

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has broken the silence on the war in Ukraine. She told the weekly Der Spiegel that she had been drawing her colleagues' attention to the plans of Russian President Vladimir Putin for a long time. In her opinion, he wants to destroy the European Union, which the head of Russia allegedly perceives as a sister project of NATO.

Merkel clearly condemned the war in Ukraine. "This is a brutal attack that violates international law and for which there is no justification," she said, calling the invasion a "big mistake" by Russia and a "great tragedy."

The ex-chancellor thinks that the war could not have been prevented with any security measures and she does not intend to apologize for the fact that diplomacy failed during her reign. "Diplomacy is not wrong just because it did not work. I don't see why I should say it was wrong, so I won't apologize for it, " she said.

In her private life, Merkel is doing very well, but at the same time she claims that she is bothered by the war in Ukraine and is therefore depressed. However, she is not worried about the composition of the current federal government; on the contrary, she has "full confidence" in it. She also expressed trust for the current Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
