Russian rocket flew "dangerously low" over the Ukrainian nuclear power plant, which was apparently headed as far as Kiev, where strong explosions were reported in the morning, the Ukrainian state agency Energoatom writes on social media. The capital Kiev was hit by the first missiles after a few weeks of peace.

Energoatom intercepted a low-flying object on their security cameras at a nuclear power plant in the city of Yuzhnoukrains'k , located about 350 kilometers from Kiev, from which a Russian missile "similar to caliber-type missiles" emerged.

The Russians use these missiles to destroy ships as well as ground targets. "Today, June 5th, Russia committed another act of nuclear terrorism," Enerogatom said on social media. According to a camera recording, a Russian rocket with a flat flight path was flying over the Yuzhnoukrains'k nuclear power plant, which could endanger the operation of the power plant and, in the worst case scenario, cause a nuclear disaster.

The state agency wrote that the Russian missile flew over the nuclear power plant "dangerously low". "Russia continues to pose threats to the nuclear safety of Ukraine's nuclear power plants and threatens the world with a new nuclear disaster. They still fail to understand that even the smallest fragment of a rocket that hits a power plant in operation can cause a nuclear disaster and a leak," Energoatom said in a statement.

According to Energoatom estimates, the cameras of the Yuzhnoukrains'k nuclear power plant apparently captured a missile aimed at Kiev. Capital mayor Vitaly Klitschko said in response to the explosions that Russia had attacked the infrastructure and no loss of life was recorded.

Moscow claims that the rocket attacks on the outskirts of Kiev were aimed at destroying the tanks that have recently been flowing to Ukraine from its European partners. However, this information could not be independently verified and Ukraine did not comment on it. In a statement to Russian state television, President Vladimir Putin said that if Europe continued to send heavy equipment to Ukraine, the Russian military would begin to attack new targets.
