Entrepreneur Soros thinks that the more power Putin loses, the harder it is to predict his actions.
Billionaire George Soros claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin must be defeated as soon as possible, as his actions become less and less predictable with declining power. "The invasion could be the beginning of World War III and our civilization may not survive. The best and perhaps only way to sustain our civilization is to defeat Putin as soon as possible," Soros said at a meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Soros sees the war in Ukraine in the context of a greater struggle between open and closed societies. In addition to Russia, China also belongs into the second group. According to Soros, Putin is convinced that the invasion of Ukraine was a mistake and is therefore preparing for peace. However, this is where the problem starts, the influential businessman thinks.
"The truce is unattainable because he cannot be trusted. The weaker Putin becomes, the more unpredictable he is," Soros said. He also pointed out that the Russian president is keeping the European Union in check with gas supplies.
