In an interview with the German weekly Die Zeit, Olena Zelenska, the wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that she felt like "in a bad action film". However, she also expressed confidence that Ukraine would win the conflict with Russia.
"The hunt on me and my family seems like a bad action film to me," she said in an interview. "The Russians want to put pressure on my husband by threatening his family," she said. "It's a very realistic plan, so we have strong security," she added.
However, according to her, the first lady also brought forth what these "invaders of Ukraine have already done" -- killing innocent children, destroying families and shooting unarmed Ukrainians. In the interview, Zelenska also mentioned the situation of the inhabitants of Ukrainian cities such as Mariupol, Kharkov and Irpin, who "have not eaten or drank anything for many days and cannot leave the shelters and basements, because they would be shot."
However, according to Die Zeit, Zelenskyy's wife expressed hope. "We will win and I am sure that the Ukrainians will return, rebuild the cities destroyed by the Russian invasion and work to restore the economy and infrastructure," she said. According to her, the Ukrainians are incredibly capable and would be missed by Europe, if they were defeated by Russia.
In the interview, Zelenska expressed her gratitude to the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, Brigitte Macron, and the Polish First Lady, Agate Duda. According to Zelenska, both of these women helped with evacuation of children from Ukraine.
