Dakota Johnson: Filming 50 Shades Of Grey Was "Psychotic." If She Knew What Was Going To Happen, She Might Not Have Taken The Role

Actress Dakota Johnson recalled shooting 50 Shades of Grey, which she said was sometimes "psychotic". Johnson said from the beginning she saw the effort to transfer the work of writer E. L. James to the silver screen as a great challenge, but shooting was not easy.

"I am a sexual being. If I'm interested in something, I want to know as much as possible about it," Johnson told Vanity Fair magazine. "That's why I made those big films with nudity," she explains her feelings from the past. However, writer E. L. James, combined with the studio and the directing team, brought a regular dose of conflict for Johnson.

The author of the book had a great deal of creative control over the film, which, however, did not appeal to the director of the first film, so according to Johnson, it sometimes happened that she and actors rewrote specific scenes in the screenplay the night before they were filmed.

E. L. James even threw the original version of the script into the trash when she found out that the character of Christian Gray could not be played by actor Charlie Hunnam. When Jamie Dornan replaced him, the situation returned to normal over time.

Johnson praises her collaboration with Dornan in an interview. According to her, they both experienced the strangest things together during the years of filming, but she liked how they could get their way on set. "We're not going to do this, you can't shoot this camera angle," she and Dornan told the director, when they didn't like their ideas.

When asked if she regretted making films from the trilogy of 50 shades of Grey, she replied that she was not looking at it from this side. "I do not think I regret it. If I knew then what it would be like, I don't think anyone would do it. It was quite psychotic at time, but I don't regret it," she said. She is happy with what these films have done for her career, but she realises that the endless conflicts on the set have been extremely difficult and strange.
