The laboratories have already confirmed 780 cases of contagious monkeypox in 27 countries, in which the disease is not normally found. This was announced by the World Health Organization, which assesses the global risk of this disease as moderate.

780 cases were recorded in non-endemic countries from 13 May to the end of last week. However, according to the WHO, this number of cases is probably undervalued. "It is highly likely that other countries will also experience the occurrence of cases and that this virus will continue to spread," the organization explains.

Countries with the highest number of cases of monkeypox infection include Britain (207 cases), Spain (156), Portugal (138), Canada (58) and Germany (57). In addition to the European and North American countries, several cases of monkeypox have also been recorded in Argentina, Australia, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.

In the case of non-endemic countries, only one recorded case is sufficient for the country to be considered as a outbreak of the disease.

“Some countries report that new cases no longer appear only among people's contacts who have been confirmed before. This suggests that there are probably outages in monitoring a transmission chain for undetected virus circulation,” says the health organization.

The WHO said that the risk to public health in connection with the monkeypox will increase only after the disease becomes a widespread human pathogen in countries where it does not normally occur.

There was no death associated with monkeypox in non-endemic countries. However, in African countries in which this disease is commonly found, at least 66 deaths have been recorded in the first five months of this year
