Neuroscientist Gerrard Kaonga has shared a trick that he believes can help the body quickly calm down and support falling back asleep without medication or complex techniques.
Insomnia is a problem that many people deal with. Even if we manage to fall asleep, the quality of sleep often isn't what we need. A common issue is waking up in the middle of the night and being unable to fall back asleep, often due to stress, poor sleep routines, or bad habits.
Neuroscientist Gerrard Kaonga has shared a simple trick that, according to Unilad, can help your body calm down quickly and get back to sleep within minutes. In an interview, he explained that if you wake up at night and can’t sleep, just focus on your breathing and eye movement.
"If you wake up in the middle of the night and have trouble falling back asleep, try a few long, slow exhales. Keep your eyes closed and gently move them side to side under your lids," he recommends. According to him, this combo often works really fast. "I can't guarantee it, but I'd bet you'll be back to sleep in five minutes," he added.
Though the method might sound unusual, Kaonga claims it has a solid foundation in physiology. Your eyes, breathing, and the way your body perceives the environment directly affect the nervous system and stress levels. That’s why this older interview has started circulating on social media again.
