Donald Trump had the body of his first wife, Ivana Trump, who died on July 14 at the age of 73 from injuries sustained when she fell down the stairs in her apartment, buried at his golf course in New Jersey. The reason is tax speculation, reports The Guardian.

While it may seem like some sort of romantic gesture, the choice of Trump's ex-wife's final resting place is not accidental.

In fact, tax laws in the US state of New Jersey are set up in such a way that cemeteries there are not subject to income or sales tax. And given that nowhere does it say what the minimum number of graves a cemetery must contain, even a single grave will suffice.

The only condition is that the cemetery must be no more than ten acres (40,468 square meters). Since the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster is up to fifteen acres (60,702 square feet), only a portion of the Trump course is classified as a cemetery.

The rest of the golf club is run as a farm because it produces mulch for gardeners. Thus, he pays nothing for the "cemetery" and the taxes for the farm, which is located on his golf course, amount to sixteen euros a year. Normally he would have to pay 78 000 euros a year for the club.

Ivana Trump, née Zelníčková, who hailed from the Czech town of Zlín, became the first famous person in the world to be buried on a golf course. She was a professional skier in her youth, but married Donald Trump in 1977.

The wedding came just a year after the couple first met. The relationship lasted until the early 1990s. The Trumps divorced when Donald Trump's relationship with Marla Maples, whom he eventually married after divorcing Ivana, came to light.

However, despite the acrimonious divorce, the two found their way back to each other, as they have remained in contact in recent years and Ivana supported her ex-husband in the 2016 election campaign when he became US President. In her 2017 book, she wrote that she used to talk to her ex-husband about once a week.
